ONE of the more intriguing members of the 2016 class of first-season sires got off the mark with his first winner when Annie Fior scored in a 7f fillies' maiden at Chelmsford on Thursday.
Annie Fior is a daughter of Finsceal Fior, an unraced son of Galileo and dual Classic heroine Finsceal Beo who stands on behalf of his owner-breeder Michael Ryan at Green Hills Stud in County Waterford.
Finsceal Beo has also produced €2.85 million yearling and Beresford Stakes winner Ol' Man River; €800,000 foal and maiden winner Too The Stars and an unraced Frankel filly who cost €1.8m as a foal.
An Cailin Orga, a sister to Finsceal Fior, this year won a Leopardstown maiden for Ryan, so carrying the same silks that Finsceal Beo bore to victory in the Prix Marcel Boussac, 1,000 Guineas and Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Finsceal Fior is recorded by Weatherbys to have covered 13 mares in his first season at stud in 2013, and received books of 25, 39 and 24 mares between 2014 and this year.
Annie Fior, trained by Denis Coakley, had finished fourth on her debut at Leopardstown last month.
She is a homebred for Ryan and is out of the unraced Leroidesanimaux mare Annamanamoux. Granddam Annoconnor won three Grade 1 races in the US – the Ramona Handicap, the Santa Anita Handicap and the Vanity Invitational Handicap.
Annamanamoux was bought by Ryan's Al Eile Stud for $200,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2008.
Annie Fior is the only runner by Finsceal Fior to date.
