Flight frustration for Charlie Hills
Charlie Hills and his wife Philippa were subjected to some worrying moments as they were about to leave London to fly to California where the Farringdon Place trainer is to saddle Dutch Connection in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
Dutch Connection: Had a smoother journey to Santa Anita than his trainer
After they had boarded their flight and were on the runway, an issue emerged after an apparent Halloween reveller had placed some sort of sticker on the door of the lavatories.
Hills, speaking from the back side at Santa Anita, after supervising Dutch Connection in some light work this morning, said: "I'm relieved to be here.
"There were some quiet hairy moments after the captain made an announcement that he would not take off until the instigator of the prank made himself known.
"That did not happen, so we sat there twiddling our thumbs and when eventually the person did come forward, we were further delayed by a technical issue.
"In all we were delayed around three hours and it was a great relief to finally set off."
Hills is pleased with the way Dutch Connection has travelled and settled in. He added: "He just did a nice easy piece of work this morning and I'm very happy with him."
