Flying Angel on the winning trail
Last season's Imperial Cup winner Flying Angel took Grade Two honours over fences in the Betway Kingmaker Novices' Chase.
Flying Angel (r) returned to form at Warwick
The Nigel Twiston-Davies trained six-year-old has endured a stop-start season over fences, winning on debut and then failing to complete on his next two starts.
However, the son of Arcadio relished the return to racing on testing ground and ran on to score by four and a half lengths at 7/2.
Gino Trail, sent off the 15/8 favourite, set out to make all and looked to have sealed the race with a series of impressive leaps down the back straight.
Flying Angel stuck to him though and was on the 10-year-old's quarters as they turned for home and the pair went toe-to-toe in the straight.
They jumped the last together but Gino Trail soon cried enough, allowing the winner to come clear under the trainer's son, Willie.
