FONTWELL and Hereford have both called 8am inspections on Sunday for racing later on the same day as the cold snap tightens its grip on British racing.
Ascot and Taunton fell to the freezing weather on Saturday with the tracks frozen in places, and officials at Sunday's courses will be inspecting before racing with temperatures set to drop again on Saturday night into Sunday.
Ed Arkell, clerk of the course at Fontwell, said: "It's cold. It's -3C and frozen and the temperature's not due to rise above 4C. It's less cold night tonight than it was last nigth but still below freezing. Tomorrow it's overcast and not much above 3C so we'll look in the morning.
"It's been tricky because forecasters have been under egging minimum temperatures by 2-3C every night, so it's been less cold on the forecast than it has been in reality."
At Hereford, temperatures are set to dip on Saturday evening before rising on Sunday morning.
Clerk of the course Libby O'Flaherty said: "We have frozen areas today. We're due to reach 3C by 2pm and then fall below freezing at 5pm. It's freezing overnight and then rising from 4am.
"We're forecast to reach 5C today so it all depends on how the forecast and the weather goes between now and the morning."
