Forth Bridge wins for The Queen
Forth Bridge staked his claim for honours at the Cheltenham Festival when carrying The Queen's colours to victory in the bet365 Scottish Triumph Hurdle Trial at Musselburgh.
Charlie Longsdon: Delighted with victory of Forth Bridge.
The Charlie Longsdon-trained four-year-old repeated his previous course-and-distance success as he outpointed Irish raider Warp Factor in determined fashion.
Noel Fehily set out to make all the running on Forth Bridge (9/1), but he was headed by Fidux at the third-last flight.
That horse's challenge proved short-lived, though, as Forth Bridge soon regained the advantage and held the late challenge of Warp Factor by three-quarters of a length.
Project Bluebook, the 6/4 favourite, was a staying-on third, perhaps unsuited by the somewhat stop-start nature of the race.
Longsdon revealed that he'd been unsure of quite what to expect from Forth Bridge coming into the contest.
"It's not a total surprise but we did look to have something to find on the ratings with a couple of the others, so I can't say I was expecting to win," he said.
"He is just a lovely horse, who despite his Flat pedigree and speed really has the look of a chaser and he won't be over-raced this season.
"He's in the Triumph and the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, but there are other options. We'll have to see what the handicapper makes of this – he might not even have got into the Fred Winter off 125 so at least that won't be an issue now."
