THE Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is hotting up as La Cressonniere became the latest to lay down a marker when coasting clear of her four rivals.
Following Postponed's dominant display in the Juddmonte International at York last Wednesday, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained La Cressonniere responded emphatically to announce herself as a major contender for the Chantilly showpiece in October.
In stretching her unbeaten run to six, the filly had to contend with a smaller field to what she had experienced in her last two runs in Group 1 company, latterly winning the Prix de Diane Longines over 10.5f on soft ground.
However with the aid of pacemaker Ouezy she put the race to bed in the closing stages, with Al-Shaqab-owned stablemate Jemayel finishing second. Nezwaah, trained by Roger Varian, could only finish fourth.
'An exceptional filly'
Postponed was made clear 4-1 favourite by bookmakers after his authoritative victory on the Knavesmire, and they responded to La Cressonniere's performance by cutting her to a general 8-1 (from 12), with Ladbrokes a standout 9-1.
Her trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was satisfied with the run, and said: "Everything went just as it should and you have to be happy with that.
"She is an exceptional filly and now we have to get her to D Day in the best possible shape.
"Going up in trip will be another matter but that is for another day."
