Frankel's son Khattar out to improve on debut run
By Chris Hill 6:30PM 3 OCT 2016
HUGO PALMER sends Khattar to Brighton on Tuesday with the son of Frankel bidding to improve upon his debut when lining up for the mile maiden at 3.10pm.
Bred by Qatar Bloodstock out of the 2000 Sun Chariot Stakes winner Danceabout, Khattar was purchased by Al Shaqab Racing at last year's Arqana August Yearling Sale for €300,000 and finished fifth at Bath last month.
Danceabout herself formed part of the dispersal of Bloomsbury Stud at the 2010 Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale where David Redvers purchased the daughter of Shareef Dancer for 460,000gns.
The mare was then consigned by Tweenhills Farm and Stud at the same sale in 2013 while carrying Khattar and was picked up by Meridian International for 260,000gns.
Danceabout has since produced two fillies by Makfi, the first of which is being offered by breeder Ecurie des Monceaux as lot 3 at the Arqana October Yearling Sale.
Khattar is a half-brother to four winners including Listed scorer Rainbow Dancing and the Listed-placed Handsome Man, and hails from the family of Japan Cup winner Jupiter Island and top-class New Zealand colt and leading sire Tavistock.
Another well-related contender having their second start is Camerone, a Galileo half-sister to Flotilla who claimed the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and 2013 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches.
Camerone was fourth at Sandown last month for trainer Ralph Beckett behind the impressive Frankel colt Atty Persse.
Owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani's Al Shahania Stud, she is out of the 1m Grade 3 Miesque Stakes winner Louvain, a Sinndar half-sister to 2014 Sprint Cup hero G Force and 1m2f Listed scorer Laajooj.
Sister to Galileo Gold bidding for Leicester success
Less than an hour earlier Palmer saddles blue-blood juvenile Choumicha for her second start in the first division of Leicester's 7f fillies' maiden at 2.20pm
Choumicha topped last year's Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale when purchased by Tony Nerses on behalf of owners Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar for £280,000.
A daughter of Paco Boy and the twice-raced Galileo mare Galicuix, Choumicha is a sister to stablemate Galileo Gold who registered Group 1 victories this season in the 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.
Pantile Stud purchased Galicuix for just 8,000gns at the 2013 Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale and offer a Champs Elysees half-brother to Galileo Gold and Choumicha through Houghton Bloodstock on the first day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Book 1 Sale on Tuesday.
Choumicha isn't the only well-bred filly in the contest though as it also features the debut of Lady Rothschild's homebred Yellowhammer, a daughter of Raven's Pass.
Out of the 2004 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Magical Romance, who changed hands for 4.3 million guineas when purchased by London Thoroughbred Services at the 2006 Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale, the Roger Charlton-trained filly is a half-sister to six winners including dual Australian Listed scorer Tall Ship.
A daughter of the 1m2½f winning Shirley Heights mare Shouk, Magical Romance is a half-sister to Alexandrova, the champion three-year-old filly in England and Ireland in 2006 following three consecutive Group 1 victories in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks.
Close relation to high-class Puissance De Lune entered at Leicester
Roger Varian introduces Zabeel Prince, a three-year-old son of Lope De Vega, in the penultimate race on the card, the 7f maiden at 5.20pm.
Zabeel Prince is out of the winning US miler Princess Serena, a daughter of Unbridled's Song, making him a three-parts brother to two-time Australian Group 2 winner Puissance De Lune and 5f to 7f scorer Majesty and half-brother to the 7f winner Serena's Storm, the dam of dual Group 1 heroine Rizeena.
Offered by his breeder Roundhill Stud at the 2014 Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, Zabeel Prince topped the sale when purchased by Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock for 325,000gns.
Half-sister to Spacious out to break maiden at Catterick
Catterick's opening 5f maiden sees Vaulted, a Cheveley Park Stud homebred daughter of Kyllachy, looking to register a first win at 2pm having twice finished third for Richard Fahey.
Out of Palatial, a four-time 7f winner by Green Desert, Vaulted is a half-sister to six winners including dual Group 2 heroine Spacious – dam of exciting two-year-old filly Spatial who holds an entry in Friday's Fillies' Mile at Newmarket – and the triple Canadian Grade 2 victor Dimension.
Well-related Secret Soul in action at Kempton
Ralph Beckett has declared Secret Soul, a half-sister to group winners Secret Gesture and Sir Isaac Newton, for the second division of Kempton's mile maiden at 7.10pm.
The daughter of Street Cry finished fifth at Salisbury over 7f at the beginning of last month.
Owned by Newsells Park Stud, who bred the filly in partnership with Darley, Secret Soul is out of the 1m4f to 1m5f winner and Listed runner-up Shastye, a Danehill half-sister to top-class French colts Sagamix and Sagacity.
Shastye has been responsible for four winners to date, most notably the Galileo siblings Secret Gesture – winner of the Group 2 Middleton Stakes and runner-up in the 2013 Oaks – and Group 3 scorer Sir Isaac Newton, who fetched 3.6 million guineas at the 2013 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Shastye is also the dam of Australian Listed scorer Maurus, a son of Medicean, while Newsells Park Stud offer her yearling filly by Galileo as lot 309 at Book 1 of this week's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
