FRENCH jumps breeders will have an intriguing new sire at their disposal in 2017 in the shape of dual Group 2 winner Free Port Lux.
The five-year-old son of Oasis Dream is the second recent acquisition for Haras de Cercy after Karaktar, a Group 3-winning son of High Chaparral bought at the Arqana Summer Sale for €110,000.
Bred by Ecurie des Monceaux out of Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes winner Royal Highness, Free Port Lux was bought by his trainer Freddy Head for €220,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in 2012.
He carried the silks of Olivier Thomas to win a 1m1f back-end maiden at Longchamp at two and won the Group 2 Prix Hocquart and Group 3 Prix du Prince d'Orange at three.
In the following season he won the Group 2 Prix Dollar, while this year his best effort was a close fourth to Garlingari in the Group 3 Prix Exbury.
Oasis Dream was a champion sprinter but is capable of transmitting stamina, as was the case with offspring such as Lady Jane Digby, Midday and Opinion.
Free Port Lux's damsire Monsun is a growing influence in the jumps sphere, with sons Network and Shirocco excelling as sires.
The fee for Free Port Lux has been set at €2,000.
