Frost and snow see off Fakenham

Sunday's meeting at Fakenham has been abandoned following a Saturday afternoon inspection.

An inch and a half of snow fell on the track on Friday, after declaration time, and course officials announced a precautionary check for 1300 due to the forecast of freezing overnight temperatures.

Although frost covers were put in place to protect the take-offs and landings, it was felt racing would not have been possible today.

With another cold and clear night forecast, plus the strong possibility of further snow arriving on Sunday, those in charge have taken the "difficult decision" to call off the National Hunt fixture.

Managing director David Hunter said: "We're very sorry that we're having to abandon the meeting, but we would not have been able to race yesterday because of snow or today because of frost, and tomorrow we would be battling both of those elements."
