QUEST FOR MORE may not be embarking on another adventure down under, but the Melbourne Cup was on the mind not just at York yesterday but in Germany, as it was revealed 2014 race winner Protectionist was on the easy list.

The Australian-owned six-year-old was an impressive winner of last Sunday’s Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin but picked up a minor injury in the process, a muscle strain in the pelvic area.

“It’s nothing serious,” said trainer Andreas Wohler, “but it means a few days’ rest and he won’t be able to run in the Grosser Preis von Baden on September 4 as intended.

“I now expect to run Isfahan and Serienholde, winners of the German Derby and German Oaks this season, in that race. There will be plenty of possibilities for Protectionist later in the autumn.”

Australia may or may not be one of them, but one European-trained horse set to head east is seven-time all-weather winner Solar Deity, who is to replace the ill-fated Franklin D as Britain’s representative in the near-£700,000 Korea Cup in Seoul next month.

Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam has accepted the invitation and has booked Darryll Holland to ride.
