THIS season's German Derby hero Isfahan will take up stallion duty at Gestut Ohlerweiherhof next year.

The son of Lord Of England was a €35,000 BBAG yearling purchase by Holger Faust and entered training with Andreas Wohler for Darius Racing.

He won Germany's most prestigious race for two-year-olds, the Group 3 Preis der Winterfavoriten, and was not disgraced when sixth to Robin Of Navan in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud.

At three Isfahan won the Group 3 Bavarian Classic, finished fifth in the Italian Derby and then got the better of Savoir Vivre and Dschingis Secret in a thrillingly close finish to the German Derby, which proved to be his final run due to injury.

Faust said: "Despite some lucrative offers from abroad, the owner Dr Stefan Oschmann was determined that Isfahan should stay in Germany."

Isfahan was bred by his trainer out of the unraced Polar Falcon mare Independent Miss, who has also produced Group 3 scorer Incantator and Group 3-placed Il Divo.
