Gittins bids to atone for Kelso error
Amateur jockey Dougie Gittins seeks to be forgiven his Kelso trespasses when he is reunited with Dolatulo at Warwick on Thursday.
Dolatulo: Runs at Warwick if it's on
Gittins was suspended for 10 days for his ride on the same horse on January 15, when the partnership finished second to Black Thunder in a hunter chase at the Borders circuit.
The 7lb claimer appeared to misjudge where the winning post was during the race, with the Kelso stewards of the belief that Dolatulo could have won had his jockey obtained "the best possible placing".
Gittins chose not to appeal the stewards' decision and will now get the chance to make amends aboard Ben Pauling's 10-year-old in a hunters' chase over three miles.
He said: "What happened at Kelso was a mistake – it was quite a shock.
"It was only my third ever ride under Rules, and my eighth ride in total, so I'm keen to move on and make sure something like that never happens again.
"The Warwick race looks quite hot, but it's a nice opportunity for him and hopefully he'll run OK.
"I've known Ben since I was born and he's been great.
"It's nice to know I have his support."
Gittins' 10-day suspension for his Kelso miscalculation is due to begin in February.
Warwick's meeting is subject to an 8am precautionary inspection on raceday morning due to the threat of frost.
