Going ‘main thing’ for New One

Ground conditions will dictate whether The New One will make his chasing debut at Market Rasen on Saturday.

The New One: Going steeplechasing this weekend, if conditions allow.

Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies revealed earlier this month that the multiple Grade One-winning hurdler was to embark upon a career over fences this season and on Monday he received his first entry in a two-mile-one-furlong novice chase in Lincolnshire.

However, the Naunton handler is not committing to running his stable star just yet.

Twiston-Davies said: "It's just an entry at this stage. We need rain. If you're not entered you can't run, so we'll see what happens with the weather and go from there.

"We're happy with him, but the ground is the main thing."

The New One's potential rivals in the Spire Brewing Company – Chesterfield Best Bitter Novices' Chase include the Dan Skelton-trained Blue Heron.

The eight-year-old landed the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton last February but has been sidelined since finishing fourth in the Aintree Hurdle two months later.
