ALOOMOMO, 6-1 joint-favourite with Ladbrokes for Saturday's Caspian Caviar Gold Cup is looking increasingly likely to miss the race with the current good ground at Cheltenham against the promising six-year-old.
Trainer Warren Greatrex has had the race in mind since the start of the season but with a firm preference for easier ground, Aloomomo now looks likely head to Ascot on Saturday week instead.
"He's far better on soft ground," said Greatrex on Wednesday. "He's in the big-race at Ascot [the Listed Lavazza Jolie Silver Cup Handicap Chase] next Saturday and I would say at this present moment, and unless the forecasts have got it wrong, I will probably not run Saturday, hope we get some rain and wait for Ascot."
Despite his frustration at the recent dry spell, Greatrex does not think an extra seven days will disadvantage Aloomomo, who he has high hopes for this season.
He added: "We've had a hurdle run to put him right which it did and this horse is in seriously good form. It's a shame but you can't do anything about the weather. If he runs the week after he'd still have a great chance there.
"I think he's improved a lot from last year and I can't wait to get him back over fences. I think he could be very good and his better years are in front of him."
Bouvreuil, trained by Paul Nicholls, was on Wednesday the subject of support and cut from a top-priced 9-1 into 6-1.
The ground at Cheltenham, which has been watered, remained good on the chase and hurdle courses on Wednesday.
