Harrington loses promising novice

Jessica Harrington reports her Grade One-placed novice hurdler Sunni May to have died of a heart attack.

The five-year-old won his maiden at Cork in November before taking a novice event at Punchestown and most recently finished third at Leopardstown to Saturnas in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle.

Harrington, speaking after the victory of Supasundae at Punchestown, said: "The bad news is that Sunni May has died of a heart attack. He just went out yesterday for a short canter and had only gone about 150 yards when it happened.

"That's the ups and downs of racing."

She added of Supasundae, who beat Monksland by six and a half lengths in the Free Festival Upgrade Ticket Offer Hurdle: "We took a chance. Robbie (Power) got off him the other day and said he wants two and a half miles. He seemed to come out of the race OK.

"He jumped much better today, and the run in a handicap the other day blew off the cobwebs. I think he likes that niceish ground and doesn't want it too heavy.

"That's the good news."
