Impressie Politologue 'could be very smart'

Report: Haydock, Friday
Betfair Exchange Novices' Chase (Class 2) 2m5½f, 4yo+
PAUL NICHOLLS won this for the fifth year running with Politologue, who was labelled potentially very smart by his trainer after running out an impressive winner on his chasing debut.
Harry Cobden gave Politologue a great ride. He pulled at the start but quickly settled into a steady gallop and the five-year-old jumped like an old hand for his young jockey.
The grey tucked in behind Vintage Clouds for the majority of the race before turning it up a gear in the home straight to secure a ten-length victory, with 6-4 favourite Welsh Shadow a further 15 lengths back in thrid.
Nicholls said: "He didn't come in until late and I thought he'd need the run as he's a huge horse. But he's classy – he jumps and travels – and he could be very smart."
Nicholls' stable sponsor Betfair cut the John Hales-owned grey to 25-1 for the RSA Chase.

Haydock: Betfair Ready Newton Novices' Hurdle (Listed) 1m7½f, 4yo+
RICHARD HOBSON'S Tahira made light work of the splashy conditions, holding off favourite Capitaine as they practically swam home on a soaked track.
Tahira had a lovely run and jumped with precision. She led from the off, her ears pricked throughout and her competitors failed to provide her with any challenge as she won by two and a quarter lengths under Harry Skelton.
Hobson said: "She was a fit horse coming into the race. She'll have a break now and we'll bring her back in the spring for the mares' novice hurdle at Cheltenham. I've not got many in and to get black type is fantastic."
