HEARTBREAK CITY, whose victory in the Ebor prompted such joyous celebrations in the York winners' enclosure, has been partially sold to Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and will run in the Melbourne Cup.

The six-year-old will remain in the care of Tony Martin and will be tasked with providing his new part-owners with a first Melbourne Cup win following near misses with Dandino and Jakkalberry.

"He ticked all the boxes we look for in a horse and we are confident that he will run extremely well for us," said Darren Dance, Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock's managing director.

"Tony did such a good job of preparing the horse for the Ebor that we didn't hesitate in forming a new syndicate with the pre-existing ownership base and leaving Tony at the helm."

Cesarewitch update

Due to quarantine regulations, Heartbreak City, who is a general 25-1 chance to win the Melbourne Cup, will not be able to take up an engagement in the Cesarewitch, for which he heads the weights after the latest scratchings stage.

Heartbreak City's absence from the Cesarewitch is a small bit of good news for backers of 6-1 ante-post favourite St Michel, who will need plenty of defectors if he is to make the cut for the valuable handicap, which has a safety limit of 34.

The progressive St Michel, who is 15lb well-in following an improved effort in the Doncaster Cup after the weights had been released, is currently 64th on the list.

Second favourite Starchitect, a 10-1 chance, is 52nd on the list, while Sweet Selection, who is 17lb well-in, is 57th.

Of those guaranteed to get a run, Heartbreak City's stablemate Quick Jack is the shortest price at 14-1.
