MONDAY'S meeting at Plumpton must pass an inspection at 8am as overnight rain led to a marked change to the going.

Conditions were described as good to soft, soft in places on Sunday, but 20mm of rain had fallen by 7am on Monday morning, changing the going to heavy.

Clerk of the course Mark Cornford is optimistic racing will still take place, and said: "It's not bottomless ground, it is wet and sloppy on the top.

"There is some surface water and there is a threat of more rain, but it is dry now and there is a wind blowing across."

"We may get a couple more showers but I'm hopeful."
