INFLUENTIAL French sire Linamix has died at the Aga Khan Studs in Normandy at the age of 29.

The son of Mendez was bred and raced by Jean-Luc Lagardere, and trained for him by Francois Boutin.

He won the Prix La Rochette at two and the Prix de Fontainebleau and Poule d'Essai des Poulains at three, the same season he finished second in the Prix Jacques le Marois, Prix du Moulin and Champion Stakes.

At the end of his racing career in 1991 he was retired to stand at Lagardere's Haras du Val Henry in Normandy and quickly established himself as a smart stallion, producing eight stakes performers for his owner in his first crop, including Prix Jacques le Marois heroine Miss Satamixa.

Linamix went on to sire 14 Group/Grade 1 winners in total, including winners of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Sagamix), Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Slickly and Vahorimix), Prix Ganay (Fair Mix) and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Fragrant Mix).

Manighar, meanwhile, scored in three top-level contests in Australia – the BMW Stakes, Australian Cup and Ranvet Stakes.

Several of Linamix's leading sons went on to become talented jumps sires, including Al Namix, Carlotamix, Fair Mix and Martaline.

Among the Linamix stallion sons to make an impact on the Flat was Slickly, sire of four-time Group 1 winner Meandre and Group 2 scorers Gris De Gris and Runaway, while Rajsaman has his first two-year-olds on the ground.

Linamix has excelled especially as a broodmare sire, with his daughters having produced numerous high-class performers. Among those are Group 1 winners Blue Bunting, Clodovil, Ectot, Montmartre, Most Improved, Muhaarar, Natagora, Rosanara, Sagawara, Sageburg, Valixir, Valyra and Vazirabad.

Linamix was acquired by the Aga Khan Studs upon the death of Lagardere and was retired from covering duties in 2007.
