Japan: Jockey Christophe Lemaire was the toast of Tokyo on Sunday after he equalled local legend Yutaka Take's record of eight winners on a single card.

Lemaire, 37, has been riding high in second in the JRA jockeys' championship and he was at his most inspired as he took Sunday's fixture by storm to equal Take's record set in 2002.

Slated for ten rides on the 12-race card, Lemaire was utterly dominant with his record-equalling eight wins, a second and a fourth.

He matched Take's record in the final race of the day, coming with a late surge on Peptide Warhead to score and celebrated the success with a kiss and salute to the crowd.

A leading rider in Europe as well as the Far East, Lemaire has enjoyed success all around the world. His major wins include the Melbourne Cup on Dunaden, 2,000 Guineas on Makfi, 1,000 Guineas on Natagora, Dubai Sheema Classic on Heart's Cry, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Flotilla and Prix du Jockey Club on Le Harve.
