FRANKEL filly Mi Suerte was out of luck against the boys in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes as Satono Ares (Kazuo Fujisawa/Hirofumi Shii) displayed a taking turn of foot to land the spoils.
The progressive Satono Ares, who was completing a hat-trick on his first Graded-race assignment, was settled towards the rear in the early stages but made good headway out wide before delivering a powerful burst in the straight.
Satono Ares stayed on strongly to overhaul tiring rivals and beat Monde Can Know, the mount of Mickael Barzalona, by half a length. Bom Servico was two lengths further back in third.
Winning jockey Shii said: "I rode him for the first time but was told by the trainer that he has a strong late charge, so I decided to race him toward the rear and he responded really well in the stretch.
"I think his strong point is indeed his turn of foot. I think he will definitely be able to aim for the big titles going forward.
Mi Suerte, who was sent off as the 11-8 favourite, made good late headway to finish fourth.
