Jardine eyes Cambridgeshire

Iain Jardine, trainer of Hibou and Shrewd

Iain Jardine will consider running Hibou in the Betfred Cambridgeshire after his gallant run in defeat at Galway.

Hibou finished second in the 100,000 euro BMW Handicap – even after he was given a nudge caused by the winner, Riven Light.

It resulted in a lengthy inquiry but the result stood.

"He ran a great race," said Jardine.

"He got a dream run the whole way and David Nolan felt he had everything in front of him covered, so he pulled out for a run.

"As he angled out, he got a nudge caused by the winner and it just cost us momentum and we maybe lost a length.

"They had a long look at it and while you never want to win a race like that, I thought we might get it.

"There's good races in our lad, but from our point of view we were second in another big race, we'll win one soon.

"We were very well looked after and, with the right horse, will definitely go back.

"He might go for the Cambridgeshire, we'll see."

Jardine also sent over his dual-purpose performer Shrewd for the Galway Hurdle but he could only finish 10th.

"The ground went against Shrewd in the Hurdle, he was never really in the race," said Jardine.

"There'll be other days for him. He's in the Ebor but it might be tight for him getting in, so we might look at the Old Borough Cup at Haydock."
