Johnson reaches century mark
Richard Johnson chalked up his 100th winner of the season as Amore Alato landed the Future Stars Intermediate Chase at Sandown.
Richard Johnson brought up his century on Sunday
The champion jockey drew a blank at Aintree on Saturday as he went in search of the landmark winner, but Amore Alato proved game for the task in this three-mile Listed heat.
Sent off a 100/30 chance, Johnny Farrelly's charge put in a fine round of jumping from a prominent position, staying on well after appearing likely to flatten out at one stage.
Ballybolley was the only real challenger with three fences to jump and he looked likely to provide stiff competition turning for home, but Johnson still had a little up his sleeve and a fine leap at the second last saw Amore Alato pull clear again.
He cleared the last with the minimum of fuss too, eventually coming home seven lengths clear with Vivaldi Collonges and Voix D'Eau well adrift.
