Jon lifts Badger Ales Trophy

Gentleman Jon (9/1) claimed a dramatic renewal of the Badger Ales Trophy Handicap Chase at Wincanton.

Gentleman Jon (L) takes the last as Southfield Theatre tumbles

Set List had appeared a major player from the front but an awful gaffe three out knocked Emma Lavelle's inmate badly off his stride.

Southfield Theatre had looked the chief beneficiary for the Nicholls-Cobden axis, but the 11/8 favourite got the last all wrong and fell.

Gentleman Jon was narrowly behind Southfield Theatre at the final fence, but he was able to cash under Tom O'Brien, with the Colin Tizzard-trained 9/1 shot eventually winning by 25 lengths.

Set List ended up finishing second.

O'Brien said: "He (Southfield Theatre) headed me, but I was correct at the last and he wasn't.

"On the whole, he was good and he's just a game horse."

  • Gentleman Jon was advised at 14/1 (15p Rule 4) by Ben Linfoot's Value Bet column
