Kananee bids for finals ticket
Newcastle hosts its first ever All-Weather Championships fast-track qualifier on Thursday with five two-year-olds declared for the £20,000 32Red Casino Conditions Stakes.
The winner of the six-furlong Tapeta contest receives a free and automatic place in the £150,000 All-Weather Three-Year-Old Championships Conditions Stakes over the same distance on on Finals Day at Lingfield Park on Good Friday, April 14.
Saeed bin Suroor's Kananee heads to Gosforth Park on the back of a cosy three-quarter length success over a furlong further at Kempton Park.
The Exceed And Excel colt's only defeat came in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and he previously gained a pair of wins over five furlongs, including a comfortable debut success on Polytrack at Lingfield back in April.
Bin Suroor said: "Kananee won nicely last time at Kempton Park. He had one or two issues after he ran at Royal Ascot but improved physically and mentally for the break and is in good form at the moment.
"He tries hard in his races and acts very well on an all-weather surface. The step back down in trip should be no problem and he should run another good race."
Mark Johnston's Sutter County also scored on his first two starts and the son of Invincible Spirit, who won a Tapeta maiden at Wolverhampton in March, drops down in class after coming home seventh in the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in September.
Karl Burke runs three-time winner Mutahaady, second to Kananee at Kempton Park, and recent Southwell second Parnassian.
The field is completed by Nuclear Power, who was a close third on his latest outing in a Listed contest at Doncaster.
