Kananee in Finals mix after Newcastle win
Kananee booked his ticket for All-Weather Championships Finals Day when just holding off Sutter County in the 32Red Casino Stakes at Newcastle.
Saeed bin Suroor: Trains Kananee
The first Fast-Track Qualifier run on the relatively new Tapeta track, the six-furlong affair attracted quality if not quantity.
Saeed bin Suroor's Kananee has only met with defeat once now in his five-race career and that came at Royal Ascot back in June.
He has also now won three on the all-weather, although he was made to work hard by Mark Johnston's Sutter County, who looked a very promising juvenile in the first half of the season.
The 7-4 favourite was always handy and despite hanging into Sutter County in the final furlong, he held on by a neck.
Connections of the runner-up will be pleased at his return to form, though, especially as he was conceding 3lb.
Kevin Stott rode the winner and told At The Races: "He was game, he jumped fast from the stalls and nothing really wanted to go on, so he was a bit keen
"He battled well and I'm pretty sure next time he runs he'll have the hood back on to help him settle.
"He's still green, he's only run four times. He's done it the hard way, but a good way.
"You can't hit the front too early here, but then again when he was running that keen I kind of had to let him down a bit."
