Kennedy taken to hospital after Downpatrick fall

Jockey Jack Kennedy has been sent to hospital for precautionary X-rays for a suspected fracture to his right femur after he suffered a bad fall at Downpatrick.

Kennedy came to grief during the Scottish Borders Handicap Chase, in which he was riding the Daniel Howard-trained Shane Billy.

Downpatrick course doctor Victoria McCandless confirmed the jockey has also been taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, in Belfast, to rule out the possibility of any spinal damage.

The 17-year-old from Co Kerry has been enjoying a fantastic start to the 2016/17 season and currently is top of the jockey's championship with 41 winners – 13 ahead of second placed Davy Russell.
