The three-year-old left trainer Marco Botti's Newmarket yard on Saturday following the completion of his sale in a private deal.
After making a winning debut in the Coolmore colours at Ascot last September, the son of Zoffany finished in the frame in his next three starts before claiming Classic glory at Cologne under Ryan Moore on what was to be his final outing for Botti.
"Knife Edge left the yard on Saturday. I am not sure who purchased him as it was done through an agent," said the trainer.
"It is a shame to lose a nice horse, but that is the way it goes regarding international racing. I imagine they had a good offer.
"He is quite a big, scopey horse that will probably get better with age and we know that he will probably be a better four-year-old.
"In my opinion he is a miler but he will probably stay a mile and a quarter and he is the type of horse they want out there.
"At the moment they (Coolmore) don't have anything else with me but hopefully they will send me a yearling or two for the future.
"They have been very supportive and have sent one or two each year since buying Excelebration."
