Landfall sinks Douglas Macarthur

Hot favourite Douglas Macarthur was only third behind Landfall in the Willis Towers Watson Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.

Aidan O'Brien's youngster was already a leading contender for the Investec Derby in the ante-post markets and was sent off at just 8/13 for this Group Three contest.

Ryan Moore was allowed his own way out in front on the favourite but he started to paddle in the straight and was passed by the eventual winner.

Firey Speech tried to get on terms but could never reach Landfall, the winner of a seven furlong maiden at the Curragh on his debut, who ran on to score by two and a quarter lengths at 9/1.
