Laurence remained nearer last than first rounding the home turn, but moved sweetly towards the front heading inside the final two furlongs and looked set to deliver a comprehensive success.

However, Laurence first hung right and then left when under pressure, with the latter manoeuvre appearing to impede the late charge of Banditry.

There was just a head between the pair at the line and while connections of the runner-up felt hard done by, the placings remained unaltered.

American Artist was a close-up third, with Sennockian Star fourth.
