Le Prezien takes Exeter prize
Le Prezien took advantage of some wayward jumping from L'Ami Serge to win the 188Bet Graduation Chase at Exeter.
Beaten by the smart Charbel on his debut over fences before winning a Grade Two Arkle trial at Cheltenham, Paul Nicholls' runner beat L'Ami Serge by three lengths, with Oscar Sunset a distant third.
L'Ami Serge undermined his chance by jumping markedly left throughout, a trait which became more significant when the tempo increased down the far side as the front two in the market left Oscar Sunset behind.
Le Prezien was largely accurate over his fences and, with his race and market rival conceding ground at every fence in the home straight, needed only to be pushed out for a comfortable victory.
"He jumped nicely today," jockey Barry Geraghty told Racing UK. "It came easy for us, I'd say Cheltenham is a stronger test. The runner-up, I wouldn't like to meet him the next day – we didn't see him at his best."
The firm's racing PR manager Michael Shinners said: "Le Prezien appeared to jump better than he had done at Cheltenham last time and should continue to improve with experience.
"However, his rider wasn't getting carried away and neither will we be – hence double-figure prices for both obviously Festival targets."
