Lee shines on Intense Tango

Apprentice Clifford Lee advertised his talents with a finely judged ride aboard Intense Tango (14/1) in the 32Red Casino Handicap at Haydock Park.

The 7lb claimer has been enjoying a good run of form but victory in front of the terrestrial television cameras in a race formerly known as the Old Borough Cup will have introduced him to a new audience.

Lee set out to make all aboard the Karl Burke trained Intense Tango who came into the race in career best form and he judged his fractions to perfection.

The pair had the whole field in trouble at the furlong marker but Montaly emerged from the pack to throw down a strong challenge, failing by just a head to reel the winner in.

There were two and a quarter lengths back to Blue Rambler in third with 9/2 favourite Magic Circle fourth.

Sky Bet cut the winner to 33/1 for the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket.

  • Intense Tango was the headline selection at 16/1 for Value Bet tipster Ben Linfoot
