Limato back in Sprint Cup contention
Limato could run in the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday after all if conditions are too fast for stablemate Twilight Son.
Limato: Could run in the Sprint Cup after all
Trainer Henry Candy revealed he will confirm Limato, as well as Twilight Son, for the six-furlong Group One on Merseyside at the five-day confirmation stage.
Limato had been ante-post favourite for the Sprint Cup at around 3-1 but was removed from the betting as Candy felt the race might come too soon following his run in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York earlier this month, when he was second to Mecca's Angel.
However, Candy reports the July Cup winner in "good form" and, with largely dry weather forecast, he could run instead of Twilight Son.
"I shall confirm his entry for Saturday," Candy said.
"If it came up too firm for Twilight Son and if Limato looked in the sort of form that he could cope with it, then he would run.
"It would be the closest between races that he's ever attempted. He's in good form."
Twilight Son won the Haydock showpiece 12 months ago, but needs cut in the ground.
His main autumn target is the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot in October.
Like Limato, Twilight Son is pleasing his trainer.
"He's in great shape," said the Wantage handler.
"The ground is the one deciding factor. If it isn't right for him he won't run.
"It looks like it could be dry for most of the week so it's a bit 50-50 at the moment.
"Ascot would be his main target, really."
