HENRY CANDY has said the weather forecast for Chantilly means July Cup winner Limato is a likely runner in Sunday’s Group 1 Qatar Prix de la Foret.

Limato was second in the seven-furlong race last year as the even-money favourite behind the since-retired Make Believe when it was held at Longchamp. He has since established himself as a top-class sprinter, landing his first Group 1 at Newmarket as well as chasing home Mecca’s Angel in the Nunthorpe at York.

“We’re hoping to run on Sunday,” said Candy. “The forecast looks hopeful and so long as the ground stays suitable that’s where we intend to run.”

Limato has missed engagements this year, including the Sprint Cup at Haydock, on account of conditions being deemed too soft.

“It’s all about following the ground with him,” said Candy. “He’s still in at Ascot [Champions Series Sprint Stakes on October 15] but I think we’d be very lucky for the better ground to hold out for that long.”

Chantilly officials reported that with a dry forecast for Arc week they had applied 4mm of water on Sunday night and that the ground was good.

Ascot back-up plan for Success Days

The going will also be a big factor in whether Ken Condon’s stable star Success Days heads to the meeting.

“We’ll have a look at the Prix Dollar and see how the race is shaping up, but Success Days wants plenty of ease in the ground,” said Condon. “If we decide against going to France he’ll probably head to Ascot for the Qipco Champion Stakes.”

A three-time Group 3 winner, Success Days achieved the most recent of his Pattern-race victories when beating Fascinating Rock in the Royal Whip at the Curragh last month. He subsequently finished in rear in the Irish Champion Stakes.
