THE NEW ONE may have run out an impressive winner of a recognised Champion Hurdle trial at Cheltenham on Saturday but Carl Llewellyn, assistant to the horse's trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies, says he would be keen to run the dual Grade 1 winner in the World Hurdle.
The New One was cut to 25-1 (from 66-1) after he racked up a third win in the Grade 2 stanjames.com International Hurdle but Llewellyn, speaking in the Racing Post's Monday Jury, said: "I would try him over three miles and let the result dictate where to go after that. I've always felt he would get a trip and I would be keen to see him given a go at the World Hurdle."

Ridden by Richard Johnson for the first time at Cheltenham, The New One settled well in the lead and found plenty in testing conditions to repel the challenge of old rival My Tent Or Yours.
Explaining why he feels The New One – who is a top price of 20-1 for the World Hurdle – may prove effective upped in trip, Llewellyn said: "He is so relaxed now and could use his two-mile speed."
Twiston-Davies appears to be aiming towards a fourth attempt at the Champion Hurdle, however. Following Saturday's victory he said: "Chasing is well out of my mind and we'll bash on towards another Champion Hurdle. He probably isn't quite good enough now. He certainly was three years ago, when he was unlucky not to win. With different riding tactics, and now he is going straight, maybe he can do it."
It was reported on Sunday that The New One's next likely target is the two-mile Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day, a race in which he has finished runner-up twice in the past three seasons.
