Lough heads to Ascot

Kerry Lee has decided to keep Kylemore Lough closer to home this week as he will run at Ascot on Saturday – and not in the Kinloch Brae at Thurles on Thursday.

Kylemore Lough jumps to victory in the Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase at Fairyhouse

Winner of a Grade One at Fairyhouse last season, the eight-year-old will take his chance in the #70,000 bet365 Handicap Chase.

This season he has finished second in a Grade Two at Ascot and was in the lead over the last in the December Gold Cup, only to tire up the famous Cheltenham hill to finish fifth.

"He'll go to Ascot instead of Ireland," Lee told At The Races.

"We're also going to target the Grade One Ascot Chase in February. We know how well he went there at Ascot the last time he ran.

"We feel if we'd ridden him a little bit differently he might have won that day.

"Travelling across the Irish Sea in January isn't always that easy so we thought we'd perhaps leave that until later in the season."

Lee also revealed that she has booked Sam Twiston-Davies to ride Bishops Road in the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
