Lucky favourite for Cambridgeshire with Sacred Act out
Third Time Lucky (second right) wins last year's Cambridgeshire
THIRD TIME LUCKY is the new favourite for Saturday's Betfred Cambridgeshire after ante-post market leader Sacred Act joined former favourite Firmament in missing the race.
Trained by Richard Fahey for the Musley Bank Partnership, Third Time Lucky is the 8-1 favourite with William Hill and will be attempting to win the 1m1f contest for a second year in a row, a feat which has not been achieved since Prince de Galles in 1969 and 1970.
However, Bronze Angel, one of his rivals at Newmarket on Saturday, won the race in 2012 and 2014 and Fahey has booked his Ebor-winning apprentice Adam McNamara for the ride.
Sacred Act's place in the field had been doubtful overnight after trainer John Gosden revealed the five-year-old was stiff, and he is joined on the sidelines by Eddystone Rock, who had been popular in the market in recent days.
His trainer Johnny Murtagh wrote on Twitter: "Eddystone Rock [a] non-runner in Cambridgeshire on Saturday. Unsatisfactory scope this morning #disappointed."
Big guns in Group 1s
The big names have turned up in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes and Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes with Blue Point and Lady Aurelia both declared.
Blue Point, winner of the Gimcrack Stakes last time, faces nine rivals in the Middle Park including Mokarris, Mubtasim, The Last Lion and Mehmas, the only horse to defeat him so far.
In the Cheveley Park, Lady Aurelia takes on the Lowther winner Queen Kindly and Duchess of Cambridge scorer Roly Poly in a fascinating six-runner contest.
Despite the competitive nature of both races bookmakers are confident Blue Point and Lady Aurelia will triumph, making them the general 11-10 and 4-6 favourites respectively.
