Macarthur leads ICW undercard

Leading Investec Derby contender Douglas Macarthur could return to action in the Willis Towers Watson Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Aidan O'Brien could run Derby hope Douglas Macarthur

His trainer Aidan O'Brien has dominated the Group Three mile contest, winning the last six renewals, including with subsequent Derby hero Australia in 2013.

Douglas Macarthur, a son of Galileo, came forward markedly from his racecourse bow to impress in winning over the course and distance in July.

He shares favouritism for Epsom with some firms alongside stablemate Capri, who also features in the possible 11-strong field. Another Galileo colt, he has won two of his three starts, most recently in the Listed Canford Cliffs Stakes at Tipperary.

Firey Speech is a well-regarded juvenile from the Dermot Weld yard, while British interests are represented by the Sylvester Kirk-trained Salouen.

This year's Derby runner-up US Army Ranger features for O'Brien in 12 for the KPMG Enterprise Stakes, while Awtaad headlines 19 possibles for the Clipper Logistics Boomerang Stakes.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained colt will be looking to return to winning ways having been out of luck at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood since his finest hour in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas.

It could be a clash of the Guineas winners as Adrian Keatley has left in Jet Setting, winner of the fillies' equivalent.

Others to note in a quality entry are Mutakayyef, who looked a little unlucky in running in the Juddmonte International, Galway winner Dream Walker, Hit It A Bomb and Haydock Sprint Cup third Suedois.

Gordon Lord Byron could make a quick reappearance after finishing down the field at Haydock last weekend.

His trainer Tom Hogan said: "Conditions didn't suit Gordon Lord Byron at Haydock – I knew we were in trouble before the race with the going but he might run at the end of the week at Leopardstown next.

"He could also run in the Concorde Stakes at Tipperary and the Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh – he has plenty of options."
