Man On The Spot: He’s No Duffer!
The ITV4 Racing cameras visit Kempton Park and Warwick on Saturday and Man On The Spot has previewed the live action.
No Duffer is fancied to collect at Kempton
Vaniteux finished behind Quite By Chance in a handicap over a shorter trip at Ascot in November but is a massive 12lb better off. He stayed this longer trip over hurdles so is a threat to VIBRATO VALTAT. The latter has been a little disappointing since finishing third in the 2015 Tingle Creek, though has his sights lowered today and is the pick of official ratings. Activial has been off the track for the best part of 12 months since finishing tailed off when odds-on at Newbury and would need a career-best over fences to win this.
The last seven winners of this have all started at single-figure odds so the market should prove an invaluable guide. Bennys King represents the yard that won this last year and he looked progressive when getting off the mark at Uttoxeter. Doesyourdogbite has taken really well to hurdling and maintained his unbeaten record on his handicap debut over track and trip on Boxing Day. JALEO, a useful juvenile last season, made a winning reappearance at Lingfield despite meeting trouble in-running. He should be even better over this longer trip and Alex Ferguson again takes off a useful 7lb so he gets the vote. Kalondra is very consistent and has won three of his last five so shouldn’t be far away and a case can also be made for Irish import Sam Red but this looks too far for stablemates Old Guard and Modus. Chesterfield caught the eye at Ascot after a long lay-off and should strip fitter today.
Ericht could give a boost to Sandy Beach’s Newbury win earlier on the card. The former’s trainer runs the useful Volnay De Thaix in this while Kruzhlinin won a Grade 3 over the fixed brush hurdles at Haydock last time, though is not as well treated over fences. NO DUFFER won back-to-back races at Haydock and Perth last spring and got back on the winning trail at Doncaster after a pipe-opener. He’s not got much mileage on the clock and can defy a new career-high mark. Our Kaempfer was an early casualty in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby but should be winning soon over the larger obstacles and this sharp track will aid his cause. Chill Factor stays well but this trip is a concern for Abricot De L'oasis.
