Massaat set for QEII
Connections of Massaat will scour the programme book for a suitable opportunity before the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in October following his triumphant return at Newbury on Saturday.
With nine weeks to the one-mile feature, sponsored by Qipco, on Champions Day, there should be time to get in another run into the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt.
Trainer Owen Burrows reported Massaat to be in fine shape after the four-year-old overcame a 373-day absence to win the Group Two Hungerford Stakes.
"He ate up last night and trotted up fine this morning, so touch wood, the initial signs are all good," said the Lambourn handler.
"Ascot is October 21. It's a little bit away. We'll get our heads together, have a chat and see. Obviously we'll be looking at Group Ones now.
"That was only his seventh ever race. He's lightly-raced so it's fingers crossed."
Before injury put a hold on Massaat's career, the son of Teofilo had shown top-class form, notably when second in the Dewhurst Stakes and 2000 Guineas.
