Meade hopeful for Riches run
Road To Riches bids to get his career back on track in the PWC Champion Chase at Gowran Park on Saturday.
Road To Riches: In action at Gowran Park.
The Noel Meade-trained nine-year-old has been a fantastic servant to connections over the years, striking twice at Grade One level and finishing third in last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup and this year's Ryanair Chase.
However, he fell on his final start of last season at the Punchestown Festival and was pulled up when favourite for the Galway Plate in July.
Meade warns his charge could need the run this weekend, but is still hopeful of a bold show in a race in which he was narrowly denied by the great Sizing Europe in 2014.
He said: "Galway was a bit of a disaster and he was quite sick afterwards, so we gave him a few weeks out and brought him back again.
"He seems in good form. He could be a little bit short, but he is where he is and we schooled him on the track the other day and he jumped brilliantly, so hopefully he'll get his jumping together again."
Road To Riches is the star of an increased string of horses Meade now trains for owners Gigginstown House Stud following this week's shock news that the leading owners have parted ways with perennial champion trainer Willie Mullins.
Of the estimated 60 horses leaving Closutton, Meade has received "around 10", and added: "They're mostly younger ones that haven't run before. They're all good-looking horses and we're pleased to have them."
Road To Riches is one of three Gigginstown representatives in the feature.
Gordon Elliott saddles The Game Changer and Devils Bride makes a swift debut for Henry de Bromhead after leaving Mullins earlier in the week.
Mullins sends Ballycasey into battle, with Rock The World, Mr Fiftyone, Pairofbrowneyes and Rightdownthemiddle completing the field.
