FOR Mehmas the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes will mark the end of his brief racing career.
After one season connections have sold a 50 per cent stake in the colt to the owners of Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland, where he will head to begin another career, preferably with a Group 1 victory under his belt.
The son of Acclamation, who races for Al Shaqab Racing, has recorded a pair of Group 2 successes and has never finished outside the first two in seven starts.
He beat today's favourite Blue Point in the Richmond Stakes, conceding 3lb to his rival there – they are off level weights today -and on his only start at Group 1 level he was firmly put in his place by Churchill in the National Stakes, although that was over seven furlongs.
'He's so tough'
Trainer Richard Hannon said: "I'll miss him when he goes as he's been a real stable star this year. He has been ultra-consistent all year, winning both the July Stakes and Richmond.
"His last start at the Curragh, finishing second in the National Stakes, was another great effort. He's so tough and, back down to his favoured distance, I can see him running a huge race now back on level weights with Blue Point.
"He's always been a standout and has been an absolute pleasure to train."
