Mehronissa opens up Cup option

Mehronissa got rolling late in the day to claim a last-gasp victory in the EBF Stallions Highfield Farm Flying Fillies' Stakes at Pontefract.

Already a winner at Haydock and Newmarket this season, Ed Vaughan's chestnut was a 5/1 shot stepped up to Listed class for the second time in her career.

The Eric Alston-trained Ridge Ranger, a Group Three scorer last month before finishing seventh in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood a fortnight ago, adopted her customary front-running role and appeared primed to get back on the winning trail after having travelled sweetly into the home straight.

She remained in front heading inside the final furlong, but Mehronissa quickened up well after she was angled off the rail and got up to score by three-quarters of a length under Frederik Tylicki.

La Rioja and Priceless, the 11/4 joint-favourites, battled it out for third, with the former winning that particular argument.
