Melbourne option for Mouth
Marco Botti could test the Emirates Melbourne Cup credentials of Dylan Mouth in next month's American St Leger at Arlington.
The Grade Three mile-and-three-quarter contest is one of two potential prep races the Newmarket handler is considering for the six-year-old ahead of a potential trip to Australia.
After failing to make any impact on his return to Britain since running three solid races in defeat in Dubai earlier this year, the son of Dylan Thomas bounced back to form last time out at Haydock with victory in the Old Newton Cup.
Botti said: "I was happy the owner had second thoughts about sending him to the July Sales. It was a nice race for him to win at Haydock. He owes the owners nothing, but luckily we have him until the end of the season.
"We are considering the American St Leger as his next target, or the Geoffrey Freer. It will be one or the other, then maybe a crack at the Melbourne Cup. They are the races we are considering, but we are yet to finalise a plan.
"Obviously he would not have got into the Melbourne Cup before his win at Haydock, but he should do now off a good weight. The Melbourne Cup becomes more competitive and harder to get in every year, but at least we are halfway there now."
