JOCKEY Mikey Fogarty was hit with a 13-day whip ban on Friday over his riding of Pairofbrowneyes in the 2m handicap chase at Cheltenham.

Fogarty was beaten a head into second on the Barry Murphy-trained runner but his use of the whip from the second last fence exceeded the permitted level. The suspension rules him out from November 25 to December 7.

Head of stewarding Paul Barton said: "It was a long way above the permitted level. He only escaped a fine because of the value of the race and he finished second. Had he won he would have been fined £1,050."

Fogarty was not the only jockey banned as Davy Russell picked up a two-day suspension for his ride on Realt Mor in the veterans' handicap chase.
