FRODON is attempting to make history by becoming the first four-year-old to win the BetVictor Gold Cup, but if the markets are to believed it is his stablemate As De Mee who holds a stronger chance of success at Cheltenham.
As De Mee and Frodon are two of the four horses champion trainer Paul Nicholls runs in the Grade 3 contest, along with Bouvreuil and Art Mauresque, and they sit second and third respectively in the market behind favourite More Of That.
However, momentum is behind As De Mee as he has leapfrogged Frodon, who is out to 8-1 (from 7) and gone into 6-1 (from 8) behind 9-2 chance More Of That.
Discussing his team, Nicholls said: "Art Mauresque loves good ground. He won well the other day and seems to have improved, he'll need to. Bouvreuil goes well fresh and seems in good order, but it's always a hard race to win first time.
"Frodon won last week and has been really well at home this week and I couldn't be happier with him. No four-year-old has won this which shows what a hard task it is, while As De Me is in good order.
As De Mee is 13-2 (from 8) with the sponsors and spokesman Jack Milner said: "Team Ditcheat has made a blistering start to the season. After starting the week as Paul Nicholls' supposed second string As De Mee's the new 13-2 from second favourite."
The ground has eased at Cheltenham overnight after 7mm of rain overnight. The going is now good to soft all over
