Monday’s racing selections

Nick Grant fancies Dubai One to go well for Saeed bin Suroor at Newcastle as the action continues under the floodlights.

LUDLOW: 1.10 Coillte Lass, 1.40 Upbeat Cobbler, 2.10 Mahlers Star, 2.40 Lofgren, 3.10 It's Oscar, 3.40 Court Duty.

NEWCASTLE: 1.00 Enable, 1.50 Dubai Dunes, 2.20 Masham Star, 2.50 Good Run, 3.20 Percy Verence, 3.50 Tegara, 4.20 Dubai One, 4.50 Horsforth.

PLUMPTON: 12.55 River Frost, 1.25 Top Notch, 2.00 Tambura, 2.30 Shimba Hills, 3.00 YUKON DELTA (NAP), 3.30 If The Cap Fits.

DOUBLE: Yukon Delta and Tegara.

Yukon Delta has to be supported in the Tysers Handicap Chase on a good-looking card at Plumpton.

The Gary Moore-trained nine-year-old has been in rattling good form over hurdles, winning at this East Sussex venue before dotting up at Fontwell

His run here was over a distance short of his best, so it is to his credit he dug deep and ploughed on to get up close to the line.

It was no surprise to see him appreciate the stiffer test next time out over an extended three-miles-one.

The form of that last race is nothing to write home about but it did show his well-being and he now finds himself on a 14lb lower mark over fences, hence the switch.

He remains at a staying trip, so his stamina should come into play and things look to have worked out nicely.

Nicky Henderson's Top Notch continues his education over the fences in the Autumn Gala Novices' Chase.

The Champion Hurdle fifth was very talented over hurdles and Grade One-placed with his seconds in the Triumph Hurdle and Fighting Fifth.

His chasing bow at Uttoxeter could see him manage only third, but in truth he was was hardly disgraced in what looked a hot little race won by Charbel.

Runner-up Le Prezien has only confirmed that impression in winning at Cheltenham and Top Notch himself got the job done subsequently at Warwick.

As befits a 1-8 chance he won easily and although it told us little more about his ability, it will have at least further boosted his confidence for stiffer tasks ahead.

Paul Nicholls is going quietly with Coillte Lass who has her latest start for the Ditcheat maestro in the Racing UK HD On Sky 432 Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle at Ludlow.

Winner of a maiden point in Ireland, the five-year-old made a successful first outing for Nicholls at Hereford.

She will undoubtedly be seen to better effect over three miles in time.

James Fanshawe has spotted a nice opening for Tegara by way of the 32Red Casino Fillies' Handicap at Newcastle.

That one must show a bit as she went off favourite for her three-year-old bow at Ripon in July but the money went west.

However, losses were recouped at Kempton the following month when she was again well backed and this time made no mistake, winning with any amount in hand under essentially a hands-and-heels ride.

Not seen since then, she remains unexposed and potentially a cut above these rivals.

It might be worth putting a line through the last run of Dubai One and follow her in the Nursery Handicap.

Saeed bin Suroor's filly had been performing well enough on the artificial surfaces at Kempton and Chelmsford, winning once and twice being second – on all three occasions as favourite.

But for whatever reason she flopped at Newmarket on her first try on the grass – again as favourite – and possibly did not handle the undulations at Headquarters, either. She sports a hood for the first time.

Bin Suroor can earlier strike with Good Run in the Betway Marathon Handicap.

The Iffraaj gelding looked promising last term, winning two of his three starts and clearly staying well.

He has only been seen once this season, though, when only 5-1 for the always-competitive London Gold Cup at Newbury in May but running no sort of race.

Given his juvenile profile this first try at two miles is an intriguing one.

On what could be a good day for the Godolphin trainer, Bin Suroor should also be thereabouts with Dubai Dunes in division two of the , Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
