Moon Racer favourite for Sky Bet test

Moon Racer is 7/4 favourite with the sponsors for the Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham on Sunday.

Altior wins last year's Sky Bet Supreme Trial

The two-mile £30,000 race is the opening contest on the third and final day of The Open meeting at Cheltenham and was won by Altior 12 months ago, a horse that returned to Prestbury Park in March to score convincingly in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

His trainer Nicky Henderson could be represented in the Grade Two on Sunday by Thomas Campbell (6/1 with Sky Bet), who was successful in a maiden hurdle at Cheltenham last month, and recent Sandown Park scorer Khezerabad (10/1).

Henderson said: "Thomas Campbell and Khezerabad are two nice horses but I'm pretty sure they are not the next Altior!

"Obviously, they were first and second at Cheltenham's October meeting and then Khezerabad won nicely enough at Sandown yesterday.

"They were only small races and this is a step up. We will see how they are later in the week before making a decision."

The 2015 Weatherbys Champion Bumper winner Moon Racer is favourite, though, as mentioned. The David Pipe-trained seven-year-old made a winning debut over hurdles when edging out Ballyandy (5/2), who himself won the Weatherbys Champion Bumper this year, at Perth in September.

Keep In Line (11/2) is unbeaten in two hurdle appearances, while Movewiththetimes (9/2) and Whatduhavtoget (14/1) have both made impressive winning debuts over the smaller obstacles.

Grade Two Persian War Novices' Hurdle third Mirsaale (10/1), Irish Listed scorer Peregrine Run (16/1) and classy Flat performer What About Carlo (16/1) also feature among the 13 entries.

Sky Bet's Michael Shinners said: "Last season's Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle proved to be a key pointer for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle, with Altior doing the double and winning both races.

"There wasn't much to separate Moon Racer and Ballyandy at Perth in September and we could be set for another cracking rematch between the Champion Bumper winners, while Movewiththetimes, Keep In Line and Thomas Campbell have all made exciting starts to their hurdling careers."
