LUKE MORRIS expects to be out of action for three or four weeks after breaking a collarbone at Chelmsford on Saturday.

The injury has come at a bad time as this winter's all-weather championships are due to be launched at Lingfield on Thursday.

However, Morris was intending to take a break anyway and hopes his prospects of gaining a third successive title have not been compromised too much.

Morris, who finished nine winners clear of his only close pursuer, Adam Kirby, on 86 last winter and was 1-2 for the title with Coral before the setback, said: "It's a clean break and I've got it strapped up. I've spoken to Dr Pritchard, who deals with all of the jumping boys, and he's given me advice on how to help the healing process.

"I did it to the same collarbone about eight years ago when I had just lost my claim, and I was back only 13 days later that time. This is a slightly worse break, but hopefully I won't be out for more than three or four weeks."

Morris was tight for room on board Ghalib for Ed Walker when a horse to his outside rolled in and he clipped heels.
