Mutakayyef takes on Tepin

William Haggas feels the trip and the ground will suit Mutakayyef as he bids to overturn the brilliant Tepin in the Ricoh Mile at Woodbine on Saturday.

The Newmarket trainer also believes this might be the best opportunity to take on Tepin, who is Breeders' Cup bound, as she has not run since winning the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Haggas reports Mutakayyef in fine form ahead of the race following his fine effort to take third place behind Postponed in the Juddmonte International over 10 and a half furlongs at York last month.

"He's cantered fine. He's in Canada running in the Ricoh Mile in Woodbine on Saturday against Tepin. Why not? Someone's got to take her on," Haggas told At The Races.

"It's worth one million Canadian dollars and as he's a gelding he's got no stud value, so we need to run for money. The ground will be fast and I think a turning mile on fast ground will suit him well.

"I think she'll be very hard to beat, but I'm hoping she'll be a bit rusty in preparation for the Breeders' Cup. She's a good filly and was awesome at Royal Ascot on ground that wasn't supposed to suit.

"His Group Two win at Ascot (in the Summer Mile) is strong and he ran a good race at York, arguably he was a bit unfortunate in the Juddmonte.

"I think a mile is better for him, so we'll see."

Tepin's assistant trainer Norman Casse said of the star mare: "She settled in perfect, as expected. That's one of the things that makes her so special.

"She can go and do these things and never miss a beat."
